Recreation Attendant - Gym (Part-time)

About Us

Golden Rain Foundation at Leisure World Seal Beach is dedicated to providing high-quality recreation services to our active adult community (55+). We are looking for a motivated and customer-service-oriented Gym Attendant to ensure the safety and maintenance of our fitness facilities while creating a welcoming environment for our residents.

Job Overview

The Gym Attendant is responsible for assisting residents with exercise equipment, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the facility, and verifying residency for facility access. This role also serves as a backup to other Recreation Attendants as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Provide guidance on the correct and safe use of exercise equipment.
  • Ensure residents use fitness equipment properly and safely.
  • Verify and register residents using the fitness center.
  • Maintain an organized and welcoming environment, ensuring fair use of equipment.
  • Keep the fitness center clean and orderly.
  • Maintain accurate records related to equipment maintenance and member usage.
  • Monitor first-floor recreation activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Cross-train to support and back up other recreation staff as needed.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience using various fitness equipment.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper exercise techniques and equipment usage.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with coworkers, residents, and community volunteers.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 150 lbs.
  • Strong vision and depth perception for monitoring equipment and residents.
  • Ability to remain calm and make immediate decisions in emergency situations.
  • Professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to work under pressure.

Education & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (training provided by GRF).

Work Environment

  • Indoor fitness center setting with moderate noise and exposure to gym equipment.
  • Occasional outdoor duties with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Potential interaction with elderly residents, including those with cognitive impairments.
  • Work a part-time schedule with varied days and hours.

The pay range for this position is $16.90/hour up to 21.92/hour depending on experience.
